Review of Kodak Play Sport EIS Video Camera

I purchased the Kodak Play Sport a couple of weeks ago to allow me to start taking videos of my Michigan kayak river and lake adventures. Most of my recordings are on flat water versus faster action shots of white water, so I have not evaluation fast action shots yet. EIS stands for Electronic Image Stabilization, which Kodak says can reduce video blur.

I purchased this particular model due to the very reasonable price point of $149.00 and the fact that it claims to be waterproof down to a depth of 10 feet for my use in boating. The camera is about the size if an iPhone.

I have used the camera now for 2 paddling day trips and I have to say in short, I am very impressed. The quality of the video superb when viewed either on the camera itself, or even better from my computer hard drive. I have also uploaded and viewed the videos to YouTube and my web site. The quality is still excellent viewed from both of those online sources but tend to be just a little jumpy due to the internet connection. The recorded video can also be viewed be directly from the camera to your HDTV, but I have not done that yet, I’m anxious to try it however.

In addition to excellent video, the microphone with the unit is very sensitive and again I’m impressed with the quality of the sound. I did find that wind did affect the sound if you’re outside on a very windy day. The microphone does have a gain setting which I have not played with yet to see if this improves the sound on a windy day. The camera itself also has a setting for glare, but I have not found a need to mess with this setting. I’m confident it will be impressive.

Both down loading the videos and charging the unit is very easy via USB connection. The controls are minimal and easy to figure out. There are only 5 buttons with good graphics for control, but these provide all the features you need. The center push/tilt button provides most of the operating functions needed. The instruction manual is only 19 pages indicating how easy the camera to use. Did I mention it also takes good still shots?

I purchased a 16 GB memory card, and it will take up to a 32GB memory card. There is not enough internal memory to use the camera so you must purchase an extra memory card. I have found the 16GB card very adequate for taking a day’s worth of videos (turning the camera on and off based on the action).

I have heard complaints from other people that their video camera has short battery life. I have found no issues with battery life so far and have found no need to purchase a second battery as a back-up. I have used the camera all day as much as I wanted without the battery going dead.

The other feature I have not tried is filming under water to see if the claim for underwater use is valid. There is a setting for underwater use that that must be set prior to underwater use.

So far I have found no fault with the camera and the quality of the sound and video far exceeds my expectations. It is well worth the money even if you never considered needing a video camera like I did.

Millions of families give garden parties every year, but pool parties are even better. You must have been to a pool bar in a hotel on holiday where one of the bars faces onto the water and there are chairs in the water, usually totally submerged so that the drinkers can sit at the bar in the water and enjoy their drink. Picture holding a party in your garden with a pool and an in-pool bar!

These bars are called pool bars or swim up bars and can be seen in hotels, holiday complexes and the gardens of the well-to-do and the skillful-with-their-hands.

It is uncertain whether anyone knows for sure where pool bars first appeared but they have been in the Caribbean, Portugal and Spain for a long time. I have also used them on cruise holidays.

The first alternative is to build, have built or buy pre-formed. Then you can select the style that you like. If you are going to buy a kit and have the vendors install it for you, then you only have to make an appointment and a week later, the bar will be complete. If, however, you are going to use a local contractor or do-it-yourself, you will require a drawing, plan or design.

You will be able to get plenty of hints from the Internet and you could download images of styles of pool bars that you like. You can download these pictures and print them off, but it is better to download them into a folder or onto a flash card or memory stick so that you have them all together and you can take them with you to confer with friends, family and professionals.

It should not have to be pointed out that all the materials used in your pool bar must be resistant to and totally unaffected by water and chlorine, which is especially corrosive. This usually leaves a choice of concrete, resin and stone.

Concrete being the cheapest and stone being the most expensive material to use. If you go for concrete, you can have it covered with ceramic tiles. if you pick the right ceramic tiles, it can look fairly dazzling or yo could select riven stone tiles which would be cheaper than solid stone or slate.

If you would like some kind of entertainment at the bar such as a TV or projector, this can be achieved despite the amount of water, but you will require to call in an expert in these matters.

Otherwise, you could only enclose the electronic devices in a box like a fish tank, but do not forget that electrical apparatus has to have ventilation, so you will need a few holes in the sides and a couple of fans driving air into the housing.

It is certainly not hard to construct your own in pool bar and it ought to be a priority if you already have a pool.

You want me to do what with which rope? The blue one? Wrap it around what? What do you mean halyard? Halyard yourself! This is most people’s first experience of sailing. However, like with everything else, it takes just a few times to get the gist of the activity. In no time you will be able to tell sheets from halyard. Here are some more facts about sailing you didn’t know.

1. Halyard. This is a rope that is used to raise a sail, yard or a flag. It is derived from the phrase to “haul yards”, halyards are made of raw fiber such as hemp.

2. The first Australian sailing medal won at the Olympics was in 1956 in Melbourne. This was done by Rolly Tasker and he dominated ocean racing in WA with 5 yachts all named Siska from 1969 to 1985. In 1986 he was officially put into the WA Hall of Champions and in 1996 he took his place in the Sport Australian Hall of Fame. He operates a sail making company based in Thailand, named Rolly Tasker Sails.

3. Malcolm Page an Australian sailor whom won 5 world titles in the 470 class. A 470 class is a 2 sailor dinghy event that is open to both men and women. The name of the class is the length of the boat that is 4.70meters and is a modern fiberglass dinghy. The 470 international classes have 2 events in the Olympics, men’s two person and the women’s two person dinghy.

4. Sharpie 12 Square Meter is the dinghy that took Australian Rolly Tasker to the first Aussie sailing medal in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. This is a vintage dinghy whose name was taken from the boats original sail area.

5. Don Cohan is the oldest person to win a bronze medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He also won a U.S.A sailing championship at a ripe age of 72.

6. Youngest to sail solo and unassisted around the world is Australian 16 year old Jessica Watson. She spent 7 months alone crossing the world nonstop. It was a 23 nautical mile travel that took 210 days of water travel.

7. The Maltese Falcon with a length of 88.00m is the biggest sailing yacht in the world. With specifications such as a two 1,800 horsepower Deutz engines running at 1,800 rpm that can go as fast as 20kn, it is deemed to be the most expensive sailboat in the world. Why wouldn’t it be? It has its own gym, an atrium, a VIP cabin, 4 guest suites that have king or queen beds and plasma screens. It was sold in 2009 for a whopping price of £60 million.

8. Alessandro Di Benedetto. They call him that “Crazy Italian Guy” who managed to solo circumnavigate the world on the world’s smallest boat that measures 21ft. What makes this feat more amazing is the fact that he was dismasted even before passing Cape Horn.

9. Hydroptère a sailing hydrofoil designed by Frenchman Alain Thébault, set a world speed record on September 4, 2009 reaching a speed of 97.90km/h for 500m in 30 knots of wind.

10. Fastest circumnavigating solo. Francis Joyon (France) currently holds the fastest single-handed circumnavigation sailing. The remarkable record breaking sailing feat was in February of 2004 when he circumnavigated in 72 days 22 hrs 52 mins and 22 seconds, sailing 28,000 nautical miles with an average speed of 15.5 kts. His vessel was a Trimaran IDEC measuring 90 ft and was not designed for single-handed sailing; it was over 10 years old with no weather router.

A common denominator for all these famous people, boats and equipment, characterizes sailing. The element of breaking boundaries for a personal goal that was seemingly unattainable. Success is easy in sailing, may you be an old or new to the sport, all you need is a lot of determination and of course some good sailing lessons.

With its stunning scenery, beautiful shallow coral beds, sun-kissed beaches and a climate that is sure to invigorate one’s senses, Mauritius is a fascinating experience for any visitor. No wonder resorts in Mauritius are booked all year round by holiday makers who come to experience sun, sand and stillness in the lap of nature.

Situated on the south-western side of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is a beautiful archipelago which includes islands like Agalega, Rodrigues and St. Brandon. As one lands in this island paradise, one realizes that Mauritius boasts of some exotic beaches, abundant tourist attractions and a highly developed urban infrastructure that has made it a hit amongst tourists. Driving through the roads of Mauritius is a pleasurable experience as one encounters stunning scenery with imposing mountains covered with lush greenery on one hand and the turquoise blue waters caressing the seashore on the other.

Begin your tour of Mauritius by taking a tour of its capital, Port Louis that offers a mix of both colonial and modern style architecture. Constructed in 1735 by the noted French Governor, Mahe de Labourdonnais, this harbour town is surrounded by mountains and is dotted with old colonial style buildings that have a charm of their own.

The Pamplemonsses Garden is one place that you should visit as it houses a large number of indigenous species of plants and herbs dating back to several decades. The Black River Gorge National Park should be the next stop on your itinerary. Spread over more than 6000 hectares, this beautiful nature park is famous for its waterfalls and the panoramic views it offers to visitors. Great for hiking, this Gorge located in the Central Highlands is much cooler than the rest of the island and offers a pleasant retreat for visitors.

Before you conclude your tour of Mauritius, make a trip to Ile Anx Cerfs, one of the most popular tourist attractions on the East Coast. Ideal for those looking to indulge in some exciting water sports, Ile Anx Cerfs offers plenty of exciting options like water skis, sailboards, laser dinghies, canoes and surf cats for those planning to indulge in some exciting undersea adventure.

Most air carriers offer daily & weekly flights to Mauritius from all major international destinations that land in its capital, Port Louis. If you want to book really cheap tickets to Mauritius, try the December to April season when the influx of tourists in this island archipelago is less. But if you want to explore Mauritius, in all its glory then the May to November season is the best. To avail of the best fares during the peak season try booking your tickets a few months in advance when the chances of getting cheap tickets is quite high. We suggest you book your holiday package to Mauritius from any online portal that allows you to book not just air tickets but hotels & car rentals as well. You can even pay for your holiday package by using the secure payment gateway provided within the portal.

Wait no further, book your air tickets today and embark on the most memorable vacation of your life.

Pool closing or winterizing can be a little more time consuming than opening or regular maintenance, but doing it the right way protects your investment and provides a cleaner, simpler opening the following spring. The simplest way to provide you with the correct information is this format of a checklist.

Use this checklist to make sure that you’ve done what’s needed to winterize your pool the correct way so you can open up to a clean pool next spring.

Something to keep in mind when winterizing: Your pool water WILL freeze! Depending on where in the country you live, there may be a thin sheet of ice or it may freeze almost solid. The ONLY way to keep the pool from freezing is to turn it into a giant Martini. Be sure to check with your local builder if there are certain pool system items that require special attention.

First off, please consider doing TWO things about 2 weeks prior to closing your pool. Add a good Natural Enzyme product to “eat up” accumulations of greases, oils and other non-filtered organic waste in the pool. The second thing to consider treating is the bio-film growing on all of the pool surfaces – on the pool itself, in the filter system, in the plumbing lines, behind lights and ladders, etc. Bio-films directly contribute to the growth of white water mold, pink slime, scale and algae, not to mention significant problems such as Chlorine Demand and poor water balance. Please see my other articles dealing with these issues.

If you are or have been dealing any water quality issues such as algae or cloudy water or the pH being off, correct those problems BEFORE winterizing. Ignoring the problem now will only make it worse in the spring. Algae, white water mold and pink slime do not die over the winter, they only go dormant.

Adjust the water balance: pH 7.4 – 7.6, Total Alkalinity 90 – 130 ppm in vinyl or fiberglass pools, 80 – 120 ppm for gunite or plaster finish pools. Calcium hardness should be corrected to prevent long term pool surface degradation; a range of 175 – 250 ppm for all pools in acceptable. Water balance is especially crucial with freshly plastered gunite pools (done within 90 days of pool closing) to prevent staining and mottling of the new surface.

Let’s go step by step and winterize the pool.

ALL POOLS (vinyl liner only):

[ ] Remove the ladders and any deck equipment

[ ] Vacuum the pool and remove all leaves and debris

[ ] Clean and protect the waterline with a good gel-type pool surface cleaner. Do not use household cleaners on vinyl liners. This type of cleaner will help prevent a dirty water line build up over the winter.

[ ] Drain the Filter tank of ALL WATER. Leave winter drain plug off!

[ ] Put all eyeballs, drain caps, gauges, etc. in the pump basket for safekeeping. That way you know where everything is next spring.

[ ] Clean DE filter grids or Cartridge with a good Pool Filter Cleaner. Do NOT use muriatic or sulfuric acid as these products will set the accumulated greases & oils into the fabric of the DE grids or Cartridge material. Consider using a quality enzyme based filter cleaner – tough on dirt, easy on the environment.

[ ] Bring the pump/motor indoors for winter and store it in a cool, dry place.

[ ] Winterize the heater (if equipped) according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to do so will cause winter damage and freezing. Be sure it is properly drained. As an extra measure, it is a very good idea to flush the heater with a good non-toxic pipeline Anti-freeze. If you have field mice in the area, add a mouse repellent to the heater area. Mice love to chew on wiring and build nests in the heater.

[ ] Remove the return eyeball(s) and install plug(s) or cap(s).

[ ] Winterize the skimmer(s). See below for pool type

[ ] Put on the Winter Cover.

All Solid covers should FLOAT on the top of the water. Remember that mesh covers will immediately allow pool water to come UP from underneath the cover. Pools utilizing a mesh cover should consider DOUBLING the amount of winter shock and algicide to prevent algae growth.

DO NOT drain pool lower than bottom of skimmer (mesh covered pools only)

If a pillow is used to hold up the cover, inflate it to only to about 2/3 full. Over inflation will cause air leakage and subsequent DE-flation of the air pillow.

[ ] Properly store the pool’s maintenance equipment such as the vacuum, net, pole, etc. Automatic pool cleaners should be cleaned and rinsed of any dirt and silt.

INGROUND POOLS (vinyl liner only):

[ ] Thoroughly blow out the underground lines

[ ]Install Gizzmo(s) in the skimmer(s) or use an Aquador(s)

[ ] Add a good non-toxic pipeline antifreeze at the rate of about 1 gal. per 20 foot of line pipe run

[ ] Store the diving board (if equipped) in a flat, horizontal position

[ ] Safety covers should be re-tightened at time of installation

[ ] Add an additional dosage of Back Up Algicide in the spring (before opening) if a safety cover is used

ABOVEGROUND POOLS:

[ ] Winterize the skimmer with a sealing plate such as an AQUADOR. The use of such a plate allows you to keep the water level at a normal level which aids in keeping the winter cover up and prevents undue sagging.

[ ] Tighten the cable securely around cover.

[ ] Use Cover Clips to further secure cover. Another new product available to secure and seal the cover is with a roll of Pool Cover Wrap. DO NOT HANG BOTTLES: Bottles hung from the cover will tear the cover!

DURING THE OFF-SEASON:

[ ] Remove leaves and heavy debris that accumulate on cover

[ ] Remove excess water from top of cover (A submersible cover pumpworks best). Once the pool freezes, there’s not much to do until everything thaws.

For owners of gunite or plaster finish pools: Please check with your local builder for any special instructions they may have.

IMPORTANT WINTERIZING TIP:

ALL Chemical Winter Kits are made to properly WORK for a maximum of about 4 months. If the pool is going to be closed for a longer period of time (example closing before October 1 and opening after May 1), it is absolutely necessary to add additional shock and algaecide to the winterizing process. This will help to prevent not only algae growth but chlorine demand problems at pool opening.

A good closing and winterizing will provide you with a much simpler opening next spring.

Don’t miss the spectacular Dalmatian Coast
Sail into Croatia’s classic marinas, historic harbors or deserted coves.

Ask any group of sailors to name their favorite destination in the Mediterranean and it’s likely that sailing in Croatia will top the list fairly convincingly. Reasons for this pole position not only include the incredible blue vistas, crystal clear waters and scenic coastline of more than a thousand islands that create a spectacular visual seascape, but it’s also down to cost. Croatia offers great value for money and has a largely uncrowded, uncluttered and unspoiled coastline compared with the development witnessed by many other European destinations. ‘Quaint’, ‘charming’, ‘safe’ and ‘stunning’ are all words used frequently to describe Croatia’s coastline.

Once a backwater, it now offers more than 50 classic marinas, the majority of which have been constructed within the past 20 -30 years and then fully updated in the last decade. Many of Croatia’s marinas carry Blue Flag status due to their determination to protect their key attraction – a pristine environment. And whilst you can head to a fully-serviced marina with all mod cons, you can just as easily moor in one of more than 500 harbors, offering age-old ambience. Some of the most popular historic harbors with the sailing community include Cavtat, Korcula Town, Hvar and Stari Grad, Trogir, Sibenik, Sali, Istra and Vrsar, to name just a few!And for those wanting to get away from it all and embark on an original adventure, you can find any number of safe secluded coves and bays to anchor in, where tranquility is guaranteed. You’ll easily find a section of the coastline and a stretch of beach to call your own.

Croatia is well known for having favorable sailing winds and safe waters, making sailing here a practical option for many. Experienced sailors often head out from Pula, in Croatia’s north, to explore the picturesque islands and Roman remains of Kvarner Bay, Cres, Losinj, Rab and Krk. Another popular route circumnavigates the stunningly beautiful Kornati archipelago, now protected as a National Park of more than 100 islands.

Boat charter is plentiful along the Adriatic coast, with key centers at the accessible, picturesque and well-serviced ports of Biograd, Split & Rogoznica, Baska Voda (Split), Dubrovnik and Kotor. Sailing boats, motor yachts and catamarans can all be chartered with a skipper and crew, or independently with proof of qualifications.

And if you’re not keen to charter a yacht of your own, you’ll find plenty of cruising options in some spectacular vessels including island-hopping by schooner, around the islands of Brac, Hvar, Vis, Bisevo, Korcula and Mljet, or scenic cruising the unusually clear green waters around Kotor, visiting Medieval towns, the Boka Kotorska fjord and venturing to the Montenegro coast. Croatia’s network of islands are also well connected by ferries if you prefer to step from land-to-land and not test out those sea legs.

The only thing on a newly wedded couple’s mind is their honeymoon… A quixotic honeymoon! With a galore of options like the mountains, beaches the couple find it real hard to decide where to go. The list of most of the newly weds includes places like Italy, Bahamas, Mexico, Hawaii, Ireland, or Thailand…

The Bahamas and Hawaii are perfect destinations for people who love to spend romantic moments together on the beach. Picturesque views at Hawaii and water sports, scuba diving the beautiful, attractive corals at the Bahamas are irresistible. These two destinations will definitely add more romance to your newly started married live.

Mexico and Italy are truly romantic destinations, with Italy having a more classy touch. Ireland is also considered to be the perfect and romantic honeymoon destination, with extremely beautiful places to visit.

However, a personal touch is important to turn the honeymoon into a truly romantic affair. Most of the places the couple visits are not secluded, and the couple needs to make some special efforts, like planning for picnics at private spots, etc. so as to spend some intimate time together. Planning for a candle light dinner, going out for walk in the moonlight, sharing intimate moments… these make the honeymoon highly romantic, subtle affair.

Ideas like gifting your partner for every little thing he/she does, bringing in flowers every morning, the much sought after massage, using fragrances for the room, etc. not only make the honeymoon extremely romantic, but also an affair to remember.

When starting to sail, you should always be aware of the Five Essentials. We show show you how.

Boat balance – If a yacht is allowed to heel away from the wind, it will tend to turn into the wind or luff up. If the boat is allowed to heel towards the wind, it will tend to turn downwind or bear away. In either ease some rudder movement will be needed to keep it on course, which will slow the boat down. Turn the boat using the wheel to the desired course to steer. This may be a definite bearing or towards a landmark, or at a desired angle to the apparent wind direction.

Trim fore and aft – The distribution of crew weight fore and aft is just as important as balancing the boat. The best way to learn the techniques is to practice them, but the idea of shifting your weight towards the wind will help. In other words, that means moving forward in the boat when sailing to windward and moving aft when sailing downwind. The aim is to adjust the position of the crew forwards or backwards to achieve an ‘even keel’. In a small boat and on an upwind course, the crew will normally sit forward, when ‘running’ it is more best for the crew to sit to the rear of the boat. The position of the crew matters less as the size (and weight) of the boat increases

Sail setting – A sail should be pulled in until it fills with wind, but no further than the point where the front edge of the sail (the luff) is exactly in line with the wind. As a guide, you will find that any sail, whether jib, mainsail or spinnaker, will set best by letting out until it starts to flap gently along the leading edge, then pulled in just enough to stop that flapping.

Centreboard – As well as driving a yacht forward, the action of the wind on the sails will push it sideways across the water – this is known as making leeway. To prevent this, the yacht needs more grip on the water, which is provided by a centreboard daggerboard or keel. The difference is simple. A centreboard will pivot around the bolt in its case; a daggerboard is moved vertically up and down In some older yachts you might find a metal board, referred to as a centreplate, all three do the same job. If a movable centreboard is fitted, then it should be lowered when sailing “close to the wind” but can be raised up on downwind courses to reduce drag. The centreboard prevents lateral motion and allows the boat to sail upwind. A boat with no centreboard will instead have a permanent keel, some other form of underwater foil, or even the hull itself which serves the same purpose.

Course made good – This is exactly what it sounds like – the shortest, or quickest, distance between two points. The course made good will be a straight line from start to finish. You need to decide the best way way of getting from one point to another in all other conditions.

Together, these points are known as ‘The Five Essentials’.

Seeking adventure is not everybody’s cup of tea. One thing that is common among all those that have their adrenalin pumping every time they get an opportunity to test their skills and mettle against nature or other people or even other species they just cannot let it go. Something similar can be said about the sport of windsurfing. It is a sport that has gradually evolved over time as well as has taken the modern technical advancements in its stride. The waves splashing all over your body, while you are trying to balance yourself on the board that is trying its level best to slip right from under your feet. You are trying to get a hold on the handle of the sail while the wind is trying its level best to snatch it away from you. It is important that under such circumstances you maintain your cool and keep that interest in the sport alive and kicking. One thing that can help you in getting your interest as well as your skill levels sharp and evolving is the right kind of windsurfing lessons.

No matter in which part of the globe you find yourself in. One thing that you will always find true to your taste are the windsurfing locations. Just make sure that the conditions are well suited to you. It is important that the windsurfing school that you have chosen has the right and the experienced instructors. It is important that no matter how many falls you make in the water, and how many times you find yourself sailing smoothly over the mighty waves. Your trainer would make sure that you just hang in there and keep on improving and mastering the skills till you become the monarch of all that you survey. The mighty waves, the unruly and irreverent ocean would no more be a challenge but rather something to be embraced.

The right windsurfing locations as well as the right windsurfing lessons would give you an insight and the right feeling of a sport that has all the ingredients to give your adrenalin that right outlet.

There’s A LOT more to Indonesia holidays than beautiful beaches, water sports and cheap colourful markets — but there doesn’t have to be. If Indonesia holiday-makers look past these tropical treats they’ll find a lush jungle wilderness in Sumatra, the gateway to a rich ancient culture at Borobudur, and communities with thriving traditional lifestyles. And that’s all without having to leave the main island, Java.

Each of Indonesia’s 17,000 smaller island has its own treasures beyond the surf and sand, and most Indonesia holidays allow for some time ‘off shore’, staying on perennial favourite Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Lombok, or one of the Gilis or other small resort islands.

Most international flights land in Jakarta, so most Indonesia holidays begin on Java, an island of still smoking volcanoes rising out of fertile jungles and and ancient culture. Or course the coastline has many likely looking beach resorts if that’s what your Indonesia holiday is about, but Java’s highlights are more for culture vultures than beach bums.

If you’re on a tight schedule, hop a plane straight to Yogyakarta, which has temples peeking out from between its more modern Dutch forts and older Muslim architecture. This is the best place to stay when visiting the beautifully preserved, ancient Buddhist temple of Borobudur, and nearby Prambanan, a huge Hindu complex. These two religious monuments deserve at least a day of your Indonesia holiday each, Prambanan, in its prime, was almost a city of smaller temples and religious buildings, and though many of them remain only as ruins there’s still a lot to see. The Telaga Warna Colour Lake and Sikidang Crater are a drive out of town towards Dieng Plateau if you’d be interested in seeing another Hindu temple complex, and one of the best surfing spots in Indonesia, G-Land is also reached by jungle trek out of Yogyakarta.

If you have more time for your Indonesia holiday, travel overland from Jakarta to Yogyakarta via Bandung for the Bogor Botanical Gardens, tea plantations, the Lembang Fruit market and the Tangkuban Perahu Volcano and Ciater Hotspring. From Yogyakarta heading further inland leads into the heavy teak forests and moist rice paddies, and eventually to Mount Penanjakan, which is said to have one of the most beautiful sunrise displays in the world. If you make it up for the sunrise you should continue on, over an unusually placed sand sea, to Bromo Volcano. From there Surabaya Airport is a few hours drive and from there you can catch a flight to Denpasar, Bali.

Indonesia holiday Extras

Indonesia’s Wildlife

If your Indonesia holiday is about seeing the jungles and meeting some of the unique wildlife, and not just the colourful marine life, then Camp Leakey, a rehabilitation facility for orphaned orangutans, built into the Tanjung Puting National Park, or the Komodo Dragon island may be worth factoring into your Indonesia holiday itinerary.

Indonesia’s Traditional Cultures

If stories of the old cultures and lifestyles still thriving in Indonesia’s highlands have beguiled you in National Geographic, then visit the long houses around Lake Toba, or spend some time in one of the communities in the Baliem Valley – also a prime hiking destination, the Mentawai Islands or the Jayawijaya Mountains, during your Indonesia holiday. Some of these communities you can visit for a day by walking in to their villages, but some you can arrange to stay in: a pretty unique experience when compared with the city lifestyle of Jakata’s population.

All these highlights cam be blended with hours or days on the beach for the perfect, individualised Indonesian holiday cocktail — one of those exotic, colourful ones you drink out of a whole piece of fruit like they serve in the beach bars here.
