Boating season in Lake Tahoe is under way! New rules and regulations from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, T.R.P.A., have been disclosed at the April meeting.

I was originally worried about the Tahoe Blue Boating regulations affecting carbureted boats with no fuel injection. Is it possible they would outlaw a carburetor engine on Tahoe like the two cycle engine ban? Not likely anytime soon. The boat blue in Tahoe program will NOT require fuel injection, but a loyalty program about tuning the boats engine for higher elevation. Also, altered exhaust within shorezone seems to be a major focus of the Agency to target and eliminate loud after market exhaust on the major cigarette boats with pass through.

In addition to new blue boating guidelines, the invasive species inspections will continue to escalate. Absolutely no water in the compartment, the ballast tanks must be empty too. If you are planning on boating in Tahoe and you have your boat on the Delta or in Pyramid, you can expect a more thorough inspection and clean up. I wouldn’t wait till the Fourth of July to get this done. If you need steam cleaning it’s hard to get them to do it after the season gets under way. Besides the outside visual inspection, you can plan on stricter enforcement as the risk of invasive species threaten Lake Tahoe. Clean with bleach inside all compartments that could hold mold and harbor a mussel or something bad besides just mold.

Once you have an inspection, last year it was a wrist band through the eye hook on the front of the boat through the trailer strap hook.

New boats need inspections too. I just purchased 3 new jet skis which never hit the water yet. Even with 50k in new equipment it was still a full inspection at Cave Rock FYI.
